2005 proved to be somewhat of an exciting year for the 3 Coyne brothers from Tallaght.
Michael the oldest of the 3 brothers competed in both the Irish and British MSA Rallycross Championship. Scoring constant points and numerous class wins in the Irish Championship, Michael ended his season on a high by winning his overall Class Championship (over 2lt class). Also to add to this, Michael was the highest placed two wheel drive car in the overall Irish championship.
In the British Championship Michael scored a 3rd in the overall modified championship being pipped at the post by Dave Bellerby and Dave Ward. Michael finished in the overall British Championship in 5th place again being the highest placed 2wd car. In 2006 Michael plans to make some modifications and will compete in the Irish Championship and depending on sponsorship will compete in the Superseries and the British MSA Championship.
2004 saw Brendan debut his 1600cc Ford Fiesta but due to problems missed the start of the 2005 championship. However once Brendan solved minor teething problems he made his presence felt on the track. His greatest feat was when he beat current champion and younger brother William.
At the end of the season Brendan was third overall in the 1600cc Class Championship and without a doubt will be a serious contender for William and Michael in 2006. Brendan’s plans for 2006 is to compete in both Irish and British Championship and hopefully to claim the 1600cc Class Championship title from William.
Willie the youngest of the 3 brothers again in 2005 won the 1600cc Class Championship. The season was not without its problems but soon he was back in top form and proving it to himself and to all on the track. During his season Willie proved that the 1600cc Nova is as every way as quick as the higher powered cars. Again consistency, reliability and a well prepared car proved to be an unbeatable combination.
Apart from winning the 1600cc Class Championship Willie also won the Co. Kildare Motor Club Perpetual Trophy for the second year running. Willie’s plans for 2006 is to defend his title and to compete in both Irish and British Championships.
2006 was another great year for the Coyne Rallycross Team with Michael clinching the first ever Irish modified Championship and retained over 2 litre class championship and Brendan and Willie taking the runner up spots. Willie retained his 1600 cc class championship with Brendan finishing second. Michael also won the Co kildare Perpetual Trophy.
The 2007 championship was to change back to a winter championship. The season would have 2 championship between Jan 07 to March 08. Michael finished second to Ben Power in the modified championship after tying on equal points, only to loose out on the number of second place finishes over the season. Michael still retained the over 2 litre class championship with Willie retaining the 1600cc class championship. The 2007-08 championship allowed Michael to capture his Second Modified championship and for younger brother Brendan to win his first ever 1600cc Class championship with the Fiesta. Willie has moved up to the 2 litre class with his newly purchased Opel Corsa after just loosing out on the overall modified chamionship with his little 1600cc Nova.
With Michael winning the Class, Modified and the Overall Irish Championship in 2009 and Willie winning the 2 litre class championship and finishing 3rd in the overall championship, it has made the 2009 a year to be remember for the coyne rallycross team.
The new 2009-10 Winter Irish championship will begin in September in Pembrey in Wales and finished in March 2010. The three brothers will now be competing in three seperate class and looking forward to a great season.
